Combustion and pollutant emission characteristics of argan nut shell (ANS) biomass

This paper presents an experimental study of argan nut shell (ANS) combustion in a lab-scale furnace. Biomass composition, properties and microstructures were determined. Combustion behaviour, fuel burn rate (FBR), pollutants (CO NOx), modified efficiency (MCE) ash analysis investigated. A comparison with wood pellets (WP) complying the ENplus Standard was performed. The impacts air flow particle sizes on characteristics analysed discussed using three average ANS lengths: 5–8 mm, 10–18 mm 25–30 mm. results show that smallest length particles induced higher FBR regular distribution flame shapes compared to other pellets. Furthermore, temperatures, CO emission MCE values improved highest used. strongly affected by operating conditions while NOx very low for all selected cases. Elemental composition reveals no agglomeration observed during experiments terms alkali index. Moreover, obtained form powder instead agglomerated particles. investigation improves understanding operational effect biomass.
